New Patients · Austin, TX

Your first visit, step by step.

No mystery bills, no being rushed out the door. Here's exactly what happens between the day you call and the day you leave with a plan - most new patients are seen the same week, medical or cosmetic.

How It Works

From first call to care plan.

Four steps, an unhurried visit with a board-certified dermatologist, and a clear plan at the end. That’s the whole process.

1

Book your visit

Call the office or use the online form and tell us whether you’re coming for medical care (a skin check, a mole, acne, or eczema) or a cosmetic consult. Most new patients are seen the same week, and we hold urgent slots for anything that’s changing fast.

2

Forms before you arrive

We email a secure link to your health history, medication list, and consent forms. Doing them at home takes about ten minutes - if you’d rather not, arrive 15 minutes early and the front desk will get you set up on a tablet.

3

Your skin check or consult

For a full-body screening, plan on 20–30 minutes with Dr. Whitfield examining your skin head to toe with dermoscopy. Cosmetic consults start with your goals, then a treatment map - never a hard sell. Any biopsy that’s warranted is usually done the same day.

4

Your plan and follow-up

You leave knowing what we found, what we’re watching, and when to come back. Pathology results are called back by a real person, not buried in a portal, and any prescriptions are sent to your pharmacy before you reach the parking lot.

What to bring

  • A valid photo ID (driver’s license or passport)
  • Your insurance card - medical dermatology is billed to insurance
  • A current list of all medications, vitamins, and supplements
  • Any prior biopsy results, pathology reports, or specialist notes
  • A note of any spots that have changed in size, shape, or color
  • Your pharmacy’s name and location for any e-prescriptions
  • Skip makeup on any area you’d like the dermatologist to examine

How insurance & self-pay work

  • Medical dermatology - skin checks, biopsies, acne, and eczema - is billed to your insurance like any other doctor’s visit
  • In-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and most PPO plans
  • Annual skin cancer screenings are covered as preventive care by most PPO plans - we verify your benefits before you arrive
  • Cosmetic treatments - Botox, filler, and laser - are self-pay, with flat published pricing and no surprise line items
  • Copays are collected at check-in; anything else is billed only after your insurer responds

New Patient FAQ

Before your first visit

Do I need a referral to become a new patient?

No referral needed. You can book an annual skin check, a mole evaluation, or a cosmetic consult directly with us. Most PPO plans cover a yearly screening as preventive care, and we verify your specific benefits before your visit so there are no billing surprises.

How soon can I be seen as a new patient?

Usually the same week. If you have a spot that’s bleeding, growing, or changing quickly, tell us when you call - we reserve urgent slots every day for exactly that, and new patients can use them.

How long does the first skin check take?

Plan for about 30 minutes door to door. A full-body screening with Dr. Whitfield runs 20–30 minutes, longer than a follow-up because we’re building your baseline and documenting every mole worth watching. Arriving with your forms done online keeps the front-desk portion to a few minutes.

Can I do medical and cosmetic in the same practice?

Yes - that’s the whole point of Solstice. The same team that does your skin checks also does your Botox, filler, and laser, so your cosmetic provider knows your full skin history. Many patients book a screening and a cosmetic consult back to back.

What if I don’t have insurance, or I’m only here for cosmetic care?

You’re still welcome. Cosmetic treatments are self-pay for everyone, with flat published pricing. For medical visits without insurance, we offer transparent self-pay rates - ask the front desk when you book and we’ll quote you before your appointment.

How do I transfer records from a previous dermatologist?

Sign one release form and we request your records - including prior pathology and biopsy reports - directly from your previous provider. If you have copies, bring them or upload them through the portal link we email you. We’ll proceed with your first visit either way.

Still have a question? Call (512) 555-0187 and a real person will pick up.

Ready to book your first visit?

New patients are welcome for both medical and cosmetic care - most seen the same week.
